Assist attorney in providing the will and process of formal appointment as personal representative by the court. Publish notices, prepare final tax returns, and file statutory reports with the court.
ASSEMBLE, INVENTORY, AND SAFEGUARD ASSETS
Take custody of all assets owned by the decedent, individually, and ascertain any interests, whether individual or joint, in other entities. Confirm and review protection for personal property, business interests, securities and real estate.
APPRAISAL AND VALUATION
Establish date of death values by qualified appraisers.
Determine cash requirements and reserves for taxes, claims, legacies and administrative costs.
PAYMENT OF CLAIMS
Consider validity of and pay claims for debts of the decedent. Object to claims without basis.
Determine and discharge all Federal and State tax reporting and liability of the decedent and their estate.
Prepare statements for beneficiaries detailing assets, income collected and disbursements.
DISTRIBUTION OF ESTATE
Pay specific legacies, establish/fund trusts and distribute remainder of assets to the residual beneficiaries.
DISCHARGE FROM PROBATE
Submit required documentation to the court and request discharge as personal representative.
